This is an image of the Santa Lucia tradition from Sweden. On December 13th, the saint's feast day, the eldest daughter of the household gets up before dawn to prepare coffee and "Lucia" rolls for the family. She dons a crown of ivy and candles (usually electric these days, in the interest of safety), and ascends the stairs with her tray, singing carols to wake everyone.
